NEW CHAPTER FOR TOUR PROGRAMME The title of editor may exude a certain amount of power and prestige.
Indeed, I’ve had the fortune - and misfortune - to have been editor of various cue sport publications throughout my career. And while people outside these pages may think you are in charge, that’s not always the case.
Indeed, take our new publication, featuring the best of English style 8-Ball Pool, as an example.
My favoured title was ‘Planet Pool’ but there was suggestions of trying to play ‘Superman’by certain people so it was back to the drawing board. And after burning much midnight oil, the eventual choice was ‘World Pool.’
Hopefully, what follows after the front cover is what it says on the tin.
We are all about 'world pool'-providing its ‘English 8-Ball’, ‘Reds and Yellows’ or whatever name you want to give the small table game. And while I maybe editor, the magazine belongs to the readers.
It’s your publication, whether you be in Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Uganda, England, Scotland,Wales, Northern Ireland or wherever. And as such you set the agenda of what we write about.
‘World Pool’ makes no excuse for favouring our preferred pool discipline but there’s certainly no discrimination on what we can cover.
There will be tournament reports, personality pieces, coaching advice. We’ve even dedicated some space to the referees so that shows how unbiased we are!
In the end, ‘World Pool’ will stand or fall by the information we receive from you, the readers.
Hopefully, you will be as enthusiastic about this project as we are. And we want to hear your ideas and suggestions to ensure ‘World Pool’ is a success.
Indeed, you might even agree with me, that ‘Planet Pool’ is a better title and help me put pressure on those who know better. Seriously, we do want to receive your feedback, positive or negative.
So, enjoy this first issue of ‘World Pool’ and we look forward to hearing your views and reading your news in future mags.
