Coast to Coast uK CyCle Challenge When 16 to 19 June What’s involvedCycling from Whitehaven on the west coast of Cumbria, through the Lake District, the Eden Valley, and the Pennines to Sunderland on the north east coast. The 147 mile route is roughly half on road, including navigating your way around towns including Keswick and Penrith, and half on off-road tracks including disused railway lines. Although there are some hard climbs, the route is designed to suit recreational cyclists, and there’s always a surfaced alternative to the off-road sections if you or your bike don’t feel up to it. tour de Mt BlanC treK When 10 to 18 September What’s involved A challenging six-day trek taking in peaks in Italy, Switzerland and France. Mt Blanc, the highest mountain in Europe is your constant companion as you walk for around seven hours each day through wild scenery of towering cliffs, glaciers and waterfalls. The trek, which starts and ends in Chamonix, France, is very hilly, with terrain varying from valley paths to steep rocky ridges. Wiggle hayWards heath hoWler When 7 August What’s involvedA challenging road cycling course in West Sussex packed with stunning views and climbs. This event offers a choice of distances – the full Epic Route is 95 miles and involves 2427m of climbing including Ditchling Beacon, while the Standard Route is 62 miles and the Fun one 37. Participants set off at five minute intervals from 8am, and should have finished by 4pm. Energy drinks and snacks are provided – as are showers and bike wash facilities.
