DARTH FADER, Vinyl Blair, Raj Again The Machine; there are a number of fine DJ tribute names but Moodymanc, the alter-ego of Danny Ward, is up there with our favourites adding some Mancunian acid house humour to the moniker of Detroit’s most iconoclastic DJ and producer. Also recording as Dubble D, and drummer with 2020 Soundsystem, it follows that Danny also knows a thing or two about house as his latest release ‘Black Paint’ out now on Tsuba illustrate with its dark and, uh-huh, moody vibes. Flip
over and there’s even a remix from none other than Chicago legend Larry Heard aka Mr Fingers. Yep, you ‘Heard’ right. A seasoned DJ, Danny’s chart is packed full of quality dancefloor tracks from Redsoul’s ravey remix of MyPairOfShoes’s ‘If You Really Want It’ to the Ethel Beatty sampling ‘Palm Trees’ by Freaky Behaviour (yeah, you’ve been spotted). Chuck in Toni Lionni’s current piano anthem ‘Take Me Higher’ and you’d be a miserable mug not to get involved.
