THE guys at 5PIN are out to teach us a thing or two about composing basslines for house and techno. They also give a lesson on how to provide incredible value for money. Even on first glance you’ll see exactly what we mean.


The pack is divided into subfolders of MIDI loops, WAV and Ableton sounds and sampler/synth patches. The WAVs are 24-bit square and saw bass files at 97/98 and 127bpm, multisampled across set intervals of velocity and frequency within a five octave range. The patches cater for NNXT, Kontakt 3, Ableton, Massive and


Reason. The MIDI is divided into 3 groups — Minimal, Old Skool and Techy.


Talking about the merits of including MIDI, the 156 loops included in the pack come complete with professionally programmed note length, velocity, slide and accent settings, and can be paired with sounds from this or indeed any other sample library. What’s more, the flexible nature of MIDI means you can actually edit the notes themselves to create original variations of the default basslines, which gives you an endless resource of patterns and ideas for your electronic productions.


This is a serious offering for any producer, of any competency, who wants to add some substance to their studio low end. An incredible pack.
