Competition is fierce in Vietnam A

ccording to David Cook, UK sales manager for Vietnam Airlines, the carrier “remains confident”, in spite of the

difficulties that currently make cargo business in Vietnam a tricky venture. He elaborated: “In terms of major challenges the competition in the market is

a key ongoing factor, as many carriers are trying to secure some of the developing and expanding cargo business to Vietnam. “This in turn impacts on pricing and the

market is extremely competitive and with a huge amount of capacity.” Nonetheless the airline is confident for

2011. Already on the development drawing board for this year is the possibility of operating into London this winter. “The other expansion plans for

2011 are concentrating on routes within the Far East region,” he said. With regard to its order for 16

B787 ‘Dreamliner’ aircraft, due for delivery from 2015: “The B787 arrival is still some way off and is not part of the equation as yet,” Cook declared.
