Know Your Association BITS AND PIECES

“A man who lives right, and is right, has more power in his silence than another has by his words.”

—Phillips Brooks

Cost Cutting Measures in an Environment of Increasing Operating Expenses

We spend thousands of dollars each year in postage to mail out renewal requests to our Members. Our operating expenses are increasing. Food and utility costs, along with health care costs, are impact- ing us in a very significant way. At the same time, the Association is funding to support the Currently Serving (the Active duty military) membership and hotel accommodations by more than $1.7 million this year alone. We’re seri- ously looking at implementing a system for automatic renewal using credit cards. We haven’t increased the membership contribution requirement in six years. We’re going to have to raise rates to keep doing what we are supposed to do. We’ll be asking you to help us soon.

Our Reciprocal Clubs

We have a very good collection of Recip- rocal Clubs and we know you Members appreciate this benefit of membership. The most popular are the Army Navy Club in Washington, DC, located one block from the White House, and,The New York Athletic Club, located on South Central Park. Four of our Recipro- cal Clubs are in New York City; 3 are in Washington, DC; 12 are in the UK; 1 is in Ireland; 7 are in Australia; and 13 are in Canada. A significant number of these clubs were brought to our attention by our Members. We thank them for help- ing us expand this program. Most of the Reciprocal Clubs are private clubs with dress codes. You can find a link to them on our website www.MarineClub.com.
