FOR THREE DAYS BEGINNING ON 28 February, the 20th anniversa- ry of the cease fire declared by the Coalition in Operation Desert Storm, a group of Marine Veter- ans of that operation gathered at Marines’ Memorial to reminisce about their time together and simply catch up on their lives. It was surreal to think that 20 years had passed since the Marines of I Marine Expeditionary Force had fought through the Iraqi Army’s defenses

For their first evening togeth- er, the reunion group attended Bing West’s Meet the Author Program, had a buffet dinner and then took a cable car to Tiernan’s Irish Pub for after-dinner enter- tainment. The next morning, they took a bus for a tour and lunch in a cave at Benziger Family Win- ery. That evening, they visited the Golden Gate Yacht Club for heavy hors d’oeuvres. The Oracle Racing Team briefed the group on the 2010 victory to bring the America’s Cup back to the Unit- ed States, and the plans for the America’s Cup race scheduled for San Francisco Bay in 2013.

On the final evening, the Des- ert Storm Reunion Group had a commemorative dinner. General Walt Boomer USMC (Ret.), who commanded I Marine Expedition- ary Force in Desert Storm, gave remarks. Afterward, the group was entertained by a cabaret of out- standing entertainment, includ- ing Liam Tiernan singing ballads, magician Patrick Martin dazzling the crowd, Hearts of Romaine singers bringing smiles and laugh- ter to all, Franc D’Ambrosio singing a medley of songs from the Phantom of the Opera, and Freddie Clarke’s seven musicians performing the most unusual international music any had ever heard. It was a wonderful end to a special time together.
