The finalpiece of the Denford expansion plan jigsaw is now in place. This is themove into a brand-new, purpose-built 18,500sq.ft. building on the banks of the River Calder in WestYorkshire. Managing director Simon

Moorhouse told Technology in Education: “This completes a planned development programme which began seven years ago and enables us to offer a broader range of products and service to our customers.” The new building atArmytage

Road, Brighouse, houses the manufacturing unit, offices for sales, marketing and administration, an R&D department, a professional development and training room and a showroom which includes an F1 in Schools track. The company’s new

headquarters has a modular mezzanine floor to enable them to copewith further planned expansion. Simon explained: “Our sales

revenue has been showing significant growth for the last seven years, and the challenge is looking to new products and new markets to keep this going.” During these seven years,

Denford has been busy developing its product range and working practices to reduce the factory gate cost of its machines. The company prides itself on being one of the few truly British manufacturing businesses in the education sector, using components supplied on a

just-in-time basis – from suppliers all, save one, within a 15 mile radius of their new facilities. Much of their recent expansion

is the result of their association with, and sponsorship of, the F1 in Schools Formula One Technology Challenge, of which Denford are the proud founders. They are also founders and sponsors of the 4 x 4 in Schools Technology Challenge and the GT in Schools – The Sports Car Design Challenge. In the F1 in Schools Challenge,

students design, analyse, make, test and race F1 model cars. What started off as a regional school event has grown into an international contest, with regional and national heats involving eight million schoolchildren from over 34 countries. Denford provides the complete

F1in Schools package which has everything you need to get your school or college up and running for this innovative educational

project, including SolidWorks 3D CAD software, Denford’s QuickCAM Pro software, F1 VWT Analysis software, F1 race equipment and either an MRC 40, Compact 1000 Pro or Router 2600/2600 Pro CNC router. Among the best sellers in their

range are theMRC 40, described by Denford as a high specification low-cost, versatile, affordable router, miller and engraver; the PCB Engraver said to be ideal for schools wishing to move away from traditional methods of chemical etching; and the Router 2600/2600 Pro, a three-axis CNC router whose Pro version can cut non-ferrous metals. The company is particularly

proud of its new large-format, high-speed, floor-standing Router 6600/6600 Pro, which offers the option of a five-station automatic tool changer, which has already excited D&T teachers who have had the opportunity to see it at the

D&T Show. Denford has worked hard to reduce the price of this machine (which comes with a number of features as standard including VR CNC milling software, universal machine bench, aluminiumT-slot table, dust extraction unit system outlet, work holding clamps and USB connection) to under £15,000. Dedicated to providing

CAD/CAMand CNC machines for education, Denford employs a workforce of 27, many of whom have been with the company for over 25 years. Afamily firm, Denford dates

back to beforeWorldWar II. Founded in Halifax by Horace Denford, grandfather of the current CEOAndrew Denford, the organisation moved to Brighouse in the 1950s. Initially, it produced

engineering inspection equipment and tool holders before progressing to lathes, tool sharpeners, grinders and polishers. Gerald Denford, father of the present CEO, took over the firm in 1962 and led it into new technology. Nowadays, Denford also sells

3D printers, lasers and even dye sublimation equipment. For further information on
