spawned innovations and companies were showing new designs, new models, upgrades and complete new ranges. Theme for this year’s central


feature area of BETT was visual learning which was split into three key themes – revision, transition, and girls and science. The feature had been developed by students from the Lampton School, Hounslow and demonstrated the benefits and challenges of using the latest technology in education. The software village was


teeming with software designed to


help educationalists deliver almost every aspect of education, from maths to music. Interactive white boards


appeared to be everywhere, with SMART and Promethean showing their latest ranges and Teamboard of Ontario, Canada, demonstrating its IWBs with unique features. Document cameras, as they are


known in the States, or visualisers here, were a feature of many stands and the visualisers forum held a meeting with an award ceremony for prominent companies and the media. The shift to laptops was confirmed by the number of


companies offering laptop storage and battery charging units.Among them were LapCabby, LapSafe and Nortek. The organisations offering to install and maintainWi-Fi networks had increased, with people queuing to talk toMeru. Technology firms were on the


increase with Boxford, Technology Supplies and TechSoft displaying their machines and expertise. A1 Technology had its latest product addition, Core Robotics’ Studiomill, along with the crowding-pulling Rapman. Encyclopaedia Britannia had a


stand and during the show the publisher, famous for its


launched its new Parental Access Portal. linked to its award- winning interactivemarkbook, already used by over 1,500 UK schools, the portal provides schools with a manageable, cost- effective way to report to parents. For the first time, secondary

school teachers can share every element of a student’s ongoing assessment with parents online.

door-to-door salesmen, launched its online version. Perhaps one of the most


ground-breaking events at the show was on theAkhter stand where Ultima Networks plc launched a new FREE Solar Energy for Schools initiative. Ultima will install a 4kWsystem with solar panels and inverter to the school roof free of charge, covering the cost of the panels and the maintenance. Wow…so whatever you do,
