Public Relations & Events

PUBLIC RELATIONS The Association acts as the authoritative voice of the travel industry for the UK trade and consumer press on all matters relating to travel to the USA. In so doing it routinely initiates a series

of press releases on current major issues, hosts regular luncheons and briefings with key members of the press. All Members also have the opportunity of posting their latest releases on the Visit USA website – see Page 6/7 ‘Website’ for more details. The Public Relations Committee meets

under the chairmanship of a Visit USA director and comprises experienced PR professionals with an in-depth knowledge of the UK-USA travel market.

 Travel Media Awards An annual event at which leading UK travel writers are recognised for articles / programmes, in a variety of media categories. This prestigious event usually takes place in July and is staged and hosted by the Visit USA Association with the winners selected by a panel of

experienced travel experts, chaired by a Visit USA director.

 Media Marketplace Staged in July, Media Marketplace is for members to meet and promote their products and services to up to 100 UK consumer and trade press in a relaxed and informal environment.

 Meet the Press An informal evening event usually held in January, to which travel journalists are invited to meet members and their PR representatives. To encourage networking this event takes place in a central London location.

 Press Initiatives & Enquiries The Public Relations Committee responds to a high volume of US travel- related calls and enquiries from the UK media as well as providing regular input to the UK trade papers. This includes an annual survey of the current UK-US travel market as perceived by UK agents and operators.

EVENTS Throughout the year, there are a number of Visit USA-organised events and occasions to which all Visit USA members are invited and where they have opportunities to network and to find out all the latest information relating to the UK-USA travel and tourism market.

 General Meetings Visit USA members are invited to attend two general meetings each year, usually held in central London, when a full range of UK-USA travel-related subjects are discussed including a comprehensive update on current Association activities. Additionally the meetings include external speakers from other related travel sectors that are of direct interest to members. These Association meetings are

usually preceded or followed by informal networking sessions where members can meet and network with like-minded industry colleagues with common interests.

 Visit USA Ball A well-established social / networking black tie event held annually on or close to US Independence Day for all Visit USA members and their guests. It is very well supported and normally sells out early with many members taking tables for use as corporate entertainment.

 World Travel Market Briefing This takes place for members and their US visitors on the exhibition’s first day ahead of opening. The main focus of the Briefing is to review the current year, but more importantly, to present forecasts for the following year made by a number of industry experts with particular market segment skills and background.

 Visit USA Road Shows Three provincial UK cities are visited annually in early December by the Visit USA Road Shows and are attended by 100+ travel agents. Member participation is limited to 30 and these highly successful shows are generally fully sold out – both to members and agents.
