processing and individual data and power cables. PoE allows for increased system flexibility with the ability to install virtually anywhere, allowing devices to be located at distances of more than 100 metres from a power supply.

The OLM200 illuminates the barcode using a

red LED, and a CMOS array reads the illuminated barcode. Without moving parts, such as the mirrors used in conventional barcode scanners, the read head is highly reliable even when mounted on a machine subject to high levels of vibration and shock. The sensor has a lifetime of 100,000 hours.

The positioning sensor, which delivers increased

accuracy, speed and repeatability, uses a barcode tape to provide non-contact linear positioning on both curved and straight tracks. The sensor continually reads up to three barcodes to build an absolute positional value, ensuring optimal performance even if a barcode is missing or damaged.

Using uninterrupted power supply (UPS),

PoE ensures the reliability and availability of the Impact M-Series cameras operating on the M40 processor. This combination facilitates continuous operation, eliminating power interruptions and costly system downtime. Delivering increased precision and speed to automated inspection, guidance and identification production processes, the embedded vision system allows up to four M-Series smart cameras to perform independent asynchronously-triggered inspections. Utilising the single M40 vision processor, the system eliminates the need to purchase and install multiple cameras. www.pptvision.com

Ideal for reading barcodes Sick (UK) has extended the capabilities of its optical linear measurement sensor portfolio with the new OLM200, for high-performance materials handling applications.

The sensor, which is supported by additional plant control system connectivity, has high operating speeds of up to 10m/s, with

non-contact linear positioning to 0.15mm, for greater repeatability and positional accuracy, enabling better space utilisation in automated picking lines. www.sick.co.uk

High-speed line scan camera Dalsa has introduced the Piranha3 16k CMOS line scan camera. This high-speed model features 16k resolution with a 3.5µm pixel size and a 70kHz line rate for ultra-fast 1,146 Megapixels per second throughput – surpassing both the resolution and the throughput of any previous Dalsa line scan camera. With Dalsa’s CMOS technology providing on-chip ADC (analogue-to-digital conversion) and CDS

(correlated double sampling), the Piranha3 16k camera delivers high speed with low noise and high dynamic range. It is ideally suited for the inspection of large area flat-panel displays and printed circuit boards, along with high-performance document scanning and other high-throughput applications. The camera has a compact form factor of 150 x 80 x 77mm.

To deliver its full bandwidth, the camera uses the new HSLink1 machine vision connectivity interface pioneered by Dalsa. HSLink takes the key strengths of Camera Link, adds new features and functions, and combines them

with scalable bandwidth in 300MB/s steps (from 300 to 6,000MB/s) while using globally available, off-the-shelf components. The Piranha3 camera is supported by Dalsa’s Xcelera-HS PX8 frame grabber and all Piranha cameras are supported by Dalsa’s Sapera vision software. www.dalsa.com/mv

For industrial applications PixeLink recently added two models to its PL-C series of machine vision cameras. The PL-C732 and PL-C734 colour and monochrome compact cameras provide high-resolution and low-noise images to offer outstanding value across a broad range of industrial applications. The PL-C732 features a 2.0 Megapixel (2,048 x 1,088) resolution imager capable of 29.2fps at full resolution, and the PL-C734 features a 4.0 Megapixel (2,048 x 2,048) resolution imager that
