28 product focus: smart cameras Intelligent imaging Greg Blackman rounds up some of the latest smart camera releases
Among the smart cameras recently released is the Neo sCMOS platform from
Andor. A true
scientifi c CMOS, Neo simultaneously offers ultra-low noise, fast frame-rates, wide dynamic range, high resolution and a large fi eld of view, overcoming the performance trade-offs associated with traditional scientifi c CCD detectors. Neo achieves a one-electron
read noise while reading out 5.5 Megapixels at 30fps, and it can be pushed to 100 full frames per second, even faster with regions of interest, while maintaining 1.4 electron noise. It offers deep vacuum cooling down to -40°C, critical to maintaining the low noise advantage and a minimal pixel blemish specifi cation across all exposure conditions. The vacuum architecture enables a single window design for maximum photon throughput.

Dalsa’s Boa M1280 is a high- resolution, highly integrated smart camera with all the elements of an industrial machine vision system. The camera offers excellent image quality at a resolution of 1,280 x 960 and operates at up to
24fps. High resolution
sensors provide greater measurement
accuracy and are able to distinguish very
small features that, if missed, could render a product defective. High-resolution imagery, combined with the processing capabilities of Boa, offers manufacturers a capable inspection solution at an affordable price. Dalsa’s Boa is an all-in-one
machine vision solution that is smarter, easier to use, and more fl exible than previous generations of smart cameras. It offers truly embedded application software, easily set-up through a standard web browser. The camera delivers greater fl exibility for its users via a rugged, easy-to-mount enclosure, built-in factory communications, and a low deployment cost.

Matrix Vision's intelligent camera solution mvBlueLynx-X uses TI’s OMAP processors featuring a powerful ARM-Cortex-A8 core. The camera offers an effi cient performance up to 1GHz plus an additional, separate DSP. MvBlueLynx-X operates with 5W under full load.
lens holder is standard (C-, CS- mount are optional). Models with integrated illumination improve the handling and guarantee image quality. Models with IP65 are also available. A .NET compliant MONO
interface allows the comfortable development of .NET-based cross platform applications and to use them on the mvBlueLynx-X without further compiling. MvBlueLynx-X is also available in the UK from Alrad Imaging.

Matrox Iris GT is a powerful smart camera family featuring Matrox Design Assistant, an
intuitive, versatile and extendable integrated development environment (IDE). Designed for systems integrators,
machine builders and OEMs who need to confi gure and deploy machine vision applications quickly, this smart camera offers a dust-proof, immersion-resistant and extremely rugged construction. A choice of image sensors, combined with an effi cient Intel Atom embedded processor, allow the camera to tackle a wide variety of applications. Bundled with Matrox Iris GT
The camera’s dimensions are 85
x 55 x 35mm (H x W x D). OEMs and system integrators benefi t from interfaces including 100 Mbit LAN, USB 2.0, RS232, dig. I/ Os, display output, and MicroSD card. High quality global shutter CMOS sensors from WVGA to SXGA are also available. S-mount
is Matrox Design Assistant, an intuitive, versatile and extendable integrated development environment (IDE), which allows applications to be created by constructing a fl owchart instead of writing traditional program code. Video capture, analysis, location, measurement, reading, verifi cation, communication and I/O operations, as well as a web- based operator interface are all set
The Impact M-Series system’s
unique design allows operators to mix and match camera resolutions for all points of inspection, providing the fl exibility to deploy cameras that are suited specifi cally to each of the separate inspection requirements. With increased resolution – 16 times the resolution of VGA (640 x 480) vision cameras – the Impact M-390 smart cameras provide ideal solutions for inspections requiring greater precision. The addition of four
independent smart cameras allows the M-Series system to excel at differentiating parts, locating defects and precisely gauging features on four sides of a part. Equipped with an optional right angle view, the compact smart camera features increased mounting possibilities in space- constrained locations. Utilising PPT Vision’s
Impact software, the M40 processor
up within this single IDE.
