Guatemalaen park has the ‘Z’ factor

Park at Coney Island in New York, packed with new rides from Zamperla, was big news last season in North America. Yet the Italian manufacturer also supplied a large number of new attractions to a park in South America.


Park World takes a look at Mundo Petapa in Guatemala – now with added “Z” factor!


L


ocated on a 10.8-hecatre site in Guatemala City, Mundo Petapa opened its gates in for the first time in 1976 as a recreational outlet for state employees of the Empresa Privasa de Guatemala. Now owned by IRTRA, which also owns and operates the Applause Award-winning Xetulul Park, it entertains up to 12,000 guests a time with a mix of rides, a zoo, theatre, pool area and educational dinosaur exhibits. Since relaunching last summer with 15 fresh rides from Zamperla, attendance has continued to increase, breaking all previous records. But it’s not just the rides that are new. The venue has been completely redesigned, with particular attention being paid to theming and landscaping surroundings the various attractions.


Plaza Arco Iris is the park’s family area, featuring 13 Zamperla rides including classics such as the Crazy Bus, Samba Balloon and Convoy, plus newer products like the Mini Discovery, Aeromax and Magic Bikes. Those looking for “high octane” thrills can head on over to Plaza Alegria, where rides such as the Z Force Tower, Mega Disk 'O’, Hydro Lift and

adrenaline pumping together the Twister Coaster, Giant Sky Chaser, a Flume ride and Wave Blaster. “Having supplied the park previously, Zamperla was very proud to have been selected as the exclusive supplier of new rides for 2010,” says company spokesman Marco Mazzuchi. “With no less than 22 rides now in operation, Mundo Petapa represents one of the best showrooms our company could possibly have!”
