Interlink in Indonesia

Interlink, the Anglo-French ride supplier, is to supply a double-drop Super Flume to an indoor attraction in Bandung, Indonesia. The ride will open later this year. Sat two-abreast inside new-style six-seater boats, riders will travel at 1.5-metres a second, plunging 9-metres on the larger of the ride’s two drops (the other will be 3-metres in length). In total the custom-designed water ride will feature a circuit of over 275-metres. Fully themed in Aztec style, the attraction will feature a large volcano, rockwork and other scenic elements. “This will be a very special ride and will add further to our ever-growing portfolio of world class water ride installations,” reckons Interlink managing director John Hudd. “We were particularly delighted to win this contract as it has given us the opportunity to do some innovative new elements on a flume attraction and I'm sure it will be a great success.” Founded in 1982, Interlink has supplied water attractions to a wide variety of venues during the past three decades.

Raptor takes shape at Gardaland

A section of coaster track

Theming has now begun on Gardaland’s eagerly- awaited new Raptor roller- coaster. Described as, “Italy’s most impressive and extreme coaster,” track for the Bolliger & Mabillard (B&M) ride was completed in just 60 days as the English contractor Hopkinson fought against snow, ice and train to get the structure ready before Christmas.

The new attraction, B&M’s first winged coaster with cars positioned either side of the track, will cover an area of 16,000 square metres and reach speeds of up to 90km/h, making it Gardaland’s fastest ride. A 45-degree lift will be followed by a 33-metre drop as riders race at a 65 degree-angle towards the park’s Rio Bravo Western Village. A total of three inversions are promised, together with other exciting twists, turns and a subterranean loading bay. Raptor is scheduled to open to Gardaland guests in time for the start of the 2011 season in April.

Canobie Lake ‘Untamed’

Canobie Lake Park, Salem, New Hampshire, is busy laying the groundwork for a new rollercoaster. The ride, a Compact Euro-Fighter from the German manufacturer Gerstlauer, has been dubbed “Untamed” and will be the only one of its kind in New England and the fourth in the United States. With grizzly-bear-themed cars each holding eight riders and support columns designed to look like birch trees, the coaster features an initial climb of 75ft straight up and a first drop that is “beyond vertical,” curving in at 97-degrees. Riders will also experience a series of banked curves, loops, twists, turns and zero-gravity rolls. The coaster area will feature a station and shop utilising rustic log construction and will be designed in an Adirondack/forest style throughout.
