Start the Day with Biggest Job
Darrell Falkinburg schedules his biggest job for first thing in the morning.
Helping Falkinburg work productively around the course are two of the several Vermeer®
products he owns: a BC1800XL brush chipper and a SC60TX stump cutter.
“The chipper is a large, powerful machine, yet it weighs less than 9,000 pounds (4082.3 kg) and the stump cutter has a track undercarriage that retracts for tight spaces,” he says. “On a golf course there is plenty of room at the jobsite, but getting there is often through limited-access areas.”
“I like to take 10 guys and five trucks to tackle the largest project,” he says. “The day gets off to a good start because everyone gets into an efficient work-flow pattern. With a crew that size, I always have someone feeding material into the chipper, so the job really moves along quickly. Instead of having one guy struggling to move a lot, I have two or three helping.”
Once the initial job is under control, Falkinburg starts sending his crews out to smaller projects, with some workers left behind to clean up.
“This process has worked very well,” he says. “It’s a great way to boost morale.”
