GSA reaches out to industry


The Gaming Standards Association is evolving; Peter DeRaedt, GSA President, explains…


S


ince its inception in 1997, The Gaming Standards Association has been the industry’s leading voice for innovations driven by open protocol standards. Because the idea for GSA was born


during a discussion at the World Gaming Congress and Expo, it comes as no surprise that its reach and influence has crossed every border on the world gaming stage.


That evolution was further solidified last year in


Europe with the establishing of a mutually beneficial working relationship between the European Casino Association and GSA. ECA, a non-profit member organization, is the representative voice of the European casino industry.


GSA’s President Peter DeRaedt says, “The


relationship with ECA brought a renewed sense of urgency to GSA’s efforts in Europe. ECA’s members strongly believe in the significant benefits of working with standards, and for GSA there are no doubts that those very standards will be the driving force in innovation in Europe.”


Now, seven months after GSA and ECA formalized


their relationship, GSA is touring Europe to further help operators and regulators understand the benefits of embracing and implementing the standards that most suppliers are now using as the basis for new development.


The benefits of GSA standards to regulators are clear and plentiful, because they bring well-defined communication protocols developed and endorsed by the industry.


The tour begins at ICE, where the tradeshow floor is filled with new devices and systems driven by GSA standards. DeRaedt adds, “First at G2E and now at ICE, we see a wealth of new products that were only dreams literally just a few years ago. Now they have come to life because of GSA standards and because of the cooperation that our membership has shown in finalizing the standards, particularly G2S, which has capabilities that were previously unheard of.”


Suppliers around the world have indeed been


aggressively implementing GSA standards to develop new products, and the journey next moves to
