Time to rock the Stadium once again

This year, the USBC Open Championships is making its record 10th trip to Reno, Nev., and seventh visit to the one-of-a-kind, 78-lane National Bowling Stadium.

The 2011 event also marks the first time in the tournament’s 108-year history that it will be held in the same city in consecutive years. In 2010, more than 70,000 bowlers made their way to The Biggest Little City in the World to compete for nearly $6 million in prize money.

Reno has proven to be a popular destination over the years, attracting more than 605,000 bowlers in nine previous visits. When the Stadium opened its doors to the public in 1995, a record 17,285 five-player teams turned out to compete.

With millions of dollars in prize money up for grabs, there’s a chance for everyone to cash in at the Open Championships. At the 2010 tournament, the Low to Cash scores were:

Regular Division Team – 2,668

Doubles – 1,096 Singles – 561

All-Events – 1,738

Classified Division Team – 2,321 Doubles – 954 Singles – 480

All-Events – 1,506

With a lot of hard work from the tournament’s dedicated team captains and the support of the Reno-Sparks Convention and Visitors Authority, the 2011 tournament is expected to be another successful event. The 122-day tournament kicks off March 4 and concludes July 3.
