1000 CHALLENGE Cameras used PMW-EX1, PMW-EX3 Production company Funny Guy Films Disabled athlete Chris Moon’s challenge was to cover an average of 36 miles a day in his month-long challenge. For the camera crew the focus was turning around a daily five-minute video diary documenting how Moon coped with the challenge and the people he met along the way for sponsor the Post Office’s website. BEDLAM Camera used SRW-9000 Production company Red Production Company Living’s first foray into drama Bedlam is billed as a sexy, stylish and scary paranormal six-parter from Red Production Company. Written and created by Neil Jones, David Allison and Chris Parker, the film was shot on the 9000, which was the obvious choice for quality 4:4:4 HDCAM SR recording. DoP Jono Smith and director John Strickland decided on combining the 9000 with a Pro 35 adaptor and Cooke lenses, plus matte box, producing impressive results. See page 20 (HDCAM Case Studies)

Camera usedHVR-V1E HDW-F900R, HDW-750 Production company Midas Media This BBC2 doc from Scottish indie Midas Media follows the billionaire American’s controversial battle to build “the world’s greatest golf course” on a remote stretch of Scottish coastline. Director Scott Brown used a combination of HDCAM and HDV with the V1E shooting 1080 25p progressive to match the HDCAM footage from the larger cameras. See page 10 (The Producer Gallery)
ELGAR: THE MAN BEHIND THE MASK Camera usedHDW-F900R Production company Prospect Pictures John Bridcut’s award-winning BBC4 documentary Elgar: The Man Behind the Mask was shot by Vaughan Matthews on the F900R. The feature length film gives an insight into the life of the British composer. Bridcut’s film reveals that although the man who composed Land

ENEMIES OF THE PEOPLE Camera usedHVR-Z1E Production company Old Street Films This hard hitting Oscar-nominated documentary about the killing fields of Cambodia, released last month, was shot on the Z1E for theatrical distribution and broadcst on More 4 and PBS in the USA. Shot in HDV in interlaced mode with colourist Vince Narduzzo rendering it with a progressive scan for a cinematic look, Enemies of the People was produced and directed by Old Street’s Rob Lemkin and Thet Sambath. FIELD OF BLOOD Camera used SRW-9000 Production company Slate North A new crime drama from BBC Scotland focusing on would-be journalist Paddy Meehan, a young copygirl working in a newspaper office airs in 2011. Written and directed by David Kane with Alasdair Walker as DoP.
THE HOUSE THAT MADE ME Camera used: PDW-700 Production company: Nutopia Shot on XDCAM HD, this innovative series of biographical documentaries for Channel 4 revisits the meticulously recreated family homes of celebrities to discover their roots. Post house Prime Focus provided grading, audio, offline and online editing of the XDCAM footage shot to high capacity professional disc.
