SDS leads the way on SUDS Surface water management company SDS has taken an active role in drawing up the Code of Practice with the Water Research Centre (WRc) for the design of sustainable urban drainage systems (SUDS).
Variety of uses: GEOlight PODS
One of the first surface water management systems to comply with the new Code of Practice and which has been submitted for WRc approval is GEOlight PODS, produced by SDS. These pre-formed off-site drainage systems, benefiting from GEOlight’s highly permeable modular structure, have a variety of applications where on-site fabrication can be kept to a minimum. The distribution pipe within the GEOlight PODS can be used as a replacement for oversized pipe solutions commonly used for drainage infrastructure.

NOV Mono awarded Carbon Trust Standard NOV Mono has become the first
progressing cavity pump manufacturer in the UK to be awarded the prestigious Carbon Trust Standard for
reducing its carbon emissions by
more than 21% over the past three years at its manufacturing site in Manchester.
The Carbon Trust Standard provides a robust methodology for assessing corporate carbon reduction performance. Mono was awarded the certification for meeting the energy management and greenhouse gas reduction objectives of the Carbon Trust Standard, and for its implementation of a carbon policy, which outlines targets to reduce its carbon footprint by 20% between 2008 and 2011.

been designed to deliver a quick, safe, permanent repair to a damaged pipe at full operational pressure. The clamp consists of two halves that are hinged, fully opening to permit quick and easy fitting on the pipe. Two self-retaining bolts are used to tighten up the clamp which speeds up the repair process and minimises disruption to water supply.

Heater layout overcomes space problems HRS Heat Exchangers has supplied a DTI corrugated tube-in-tube heat exchanger to Severn Trent Water for heating digester sludge in an anaerobic digestion application. Engineers at a Leicestershire sewage treatment works were experiencing problems with the existing spiral heat exchangers, due to blocking, high pressure drops and inefficient operation. HRS carried out a survey with Severn Trent engineers and discovered that the space available for the new heat exchanger was limited. HRS design engineers overcame the space issue by offering a heat exchanger with a chevron layout, this new layout allowed the heat exchanger to fit within the limited width restrictions in the plant room. The unit has eliminated the problems previously experienced.

Eplan launches new version of software Rittal subsidiary Eplan launched the new version of its Eplan Electric P8 software in August. The company says that the 2.0 version has extended CAD functions in the area of free graphics, which guarantee clear production specifications. Trimming and chamfering, as well as perpendicular and tangential design, are some of the functions that support detailed representations for mechanical production. To place graphical objects, XY coordinates can now be directly entered in Eplan Electric P8. Eplan says this allows users to quickly create operators’ desks and flange plates, with the information needed for smooth production. It adds that the Electric P8 saves engineering time.
