New Leeds factory for mechanical drives Siemens Industry Automation & Drive Technologies (IA&DT) has relocated a key manufacturing plant from its old Bradford site in West Yorkshire to a larger Leeds- based factory near the M1 motorway. Siemens IA&DT took over the Flender gear

unit and geared motor factory – along with its German parent in Bocholt – five years ago, and since that time has been investing in the mechanical drives side of the business. The 4,645m2 factory has 30% more production space and a 150% increase in working height. The Stourton facility provides a new UK assembly centre for Siemens Mechanical Drives, including gear units, geared motors, motors and couplings for general industry as well as emerging technologies.

Crowcon launches compact gas detector Crowcon’s new IRmax is an ultra-compact infrared (IR) gas detector which delivers rapid, fail-safe detection of hydrocarbon gases with very low power consumption. Far smaller and lighter than comparable IR detectors, the IRmax is easy to install in even the most inaccessible locations. Featuring dual-wavelength IR sensor technology in a stainless steel package, IRmax is designed to operate in the harshest conditions. IRmax does not utilise heaters to prevent condensation on windows and mirrors. Instead it has unique Stay-Clir optical components which are treated with a highly durable coating.
Because IRmax contains no components for artificially heating optical surfaces, power consumption is dramatically reduced.

Munich logs leakage with LeakMaster Concern about rising levels of leakage and increasing demand for water in Munich prompted the city utility, Stadtwerke München (SWM) to look for a permanent monitoring system to allow them to detect and fix leaks and monitor for re-occurrence. consumption greatly increases water demand.
FAST supplied the LeakMaster radio-based noise logging system and 100 noise loggers were deployed. The AZ1000 loggers analyse leak-noise during the lowest consumption period. Data is stored and transmitted by the logger. A radio receiving unit van collects data and the results pinpoint leaks.

Ladders that are as easy as ABC Advanced Building Composites (ABC) has been receiving positive feedback from network managers using its modular ladder systems. Working with NMC Nomenca and Severn Trent Water since 2009, ladders supplied by ABC have been used on numerous wastewater infrastructure contracts including sewage pumping stations, combined storm overflows, storm attenuation systems and sewers. Add-a-Step and EasyRiser are modular

Trolex publishes industrial brochure Following the launch of its new Industrial Division, Trolex, a manufacturer of gas detection and environmental monitoring systems, has published a brochure for its range of sensors and sensing systems for industry. The new brochure shows the complete integrated command and control systems available from Trolex for gas detection, bulk material handling, machine monitoring, air/gas flow monitoring, process monitoring, gas leak detection, as well as monitoring systems with SCADA interface, utilising the company’s functionally compatible sensors and controllers. The brochure gives details of the complete portfolio of Trolex products including fixed gas detectors, personal and portable gas detectors.

Hydro separator provides SUDS solution An innovative sustainable drainage solution using Hydro’s Downstream Defender hydrodynamic vortex
Sustainable solution: the Downstream Defender
separator has helped minimise the environmental impact of an £8M Scottish trunk road realignment. The system is designed to remove sediment, floatables and pollutants from stormwater. It provides greater pollutant removal in a smaller footprint compared with conventional gravity devices. On the A7 near Auchenrivock, Dumfries, it was identified that a Defender could
provide a space-saving solution which achieved the required level of pollutants and sediments removal before discharging stormwater into the River Esk.
