First Words
My first month leading SGB Sports into a brave new world included the STAG buying show at Cotswold Water Park (see review, page 10).
This gave me a great opportunity to meet many of the industry’s brands, and to gauge the number of topics, products and sports I have to learn about in the coming weeks and months.
The new direction we are taking with SGB Sports is designed to streamline this information into a one-stop shop of insight and analysis that you will be able to trust as a comprehensive guide to the industry you rely on for your living.
We have already started to introduce changes in this issue, with refreshed page layouts and styles. From January, you will see the more radical changes we have planned, as well as the introduction of a new-look website.
I hate to tease you like this, but the feedback we received from exhibitors at the STAG show was extremely positive, making the SGB Sports team even more excited about what the future holds and what we can do with this illustrious title.
I just hope we have better staying power than poor old James Wade at the Grand Slam of Darts a few weeks back. I’d watched him play well throughout the tournament, admittedly scraping through against Mervyn King and Terry Jenkins with some exciting darts, but to be 8-0 up in the final and then capitulate to a 12-16 loss to Scott Waites truly is the epitome of snatching defeat from the jaws of victory.
I guess that gives Red Dragon Darts immediate bragging rights in the darts world, at least until the BDO and PDC get back to contesting their own World Championships.
