HARBOUR AMBITIONS

Part of the original objective

behind Castle Quay was to establish a focal point not only for the residents of the first phase but also for visitors and the wider community. This will incorporate a second phase comprising three further residential buildings, including a gym and indoor swimming pool, but the direction this second phase of the project takes will be something quite different. The enhanced development is headed up by internationally renowned architects and Pritzker Prize winners SOM, working in collaboration with Jersey practice Axis Mason. Their designs incorporate buildings that are staggered in height and designed to respond sensitively to the town fabric, with wide boulevards on the ground plane.

Like the coming expansion, Le Capelain House and Millais House are also arranged around new public spaces and the best of retail and gastronomic fine dining experiences. The architectural ambitions shaping the project revolve around restoring

a connection between the bustling centre of St Helier and the space at the water’s edge that forms an organic gateway to the island. Previously overshadowed by deserted industrial buildings, the redevelopment of this edge of St Helier focuses on civic spaces like public promenades, dining terraces, landscaped surroundings and lively façades. Close to the heart of the town but enjoying the wonderful views and natural beauty of St Aubin’s bay, Castle Quay offers a distinctive fusion of lifestyle and leisure opportunities. The foodie scene brings both an international outlook and a passionately local approach: M&S is a world-famous British icon that needs no introduction, while Cooper & Co., Jersey’s coffee and tea merchants since the late nineteenth century, offers a huge variety of coffees and teas from all over the world but has been roasting and packing its own coffee on the island since at least 1890. Today the company is a firm favourite with a hugely loyal following of coffee-lovers and is set to open next year at Millais House.

The fine dining on offer at Castle Quay will be crowed by an elegant establishment coming soon to Le Capelain House.

With the best of Jersey’s culinary, retail and leisure experiences gathered together against a backdrop of breathtaking natural beauty, Castle Quay is emerging as the key location for international dining, stylish shopping, innovative workspaces and year-round leisure opportunities in the Channel Islands. As the first residents arrive and the plans come to fruition, Castle Quay promises to become not just a local landmark, but one of the world’s finest maritime destinations.
