words readers I’ve got hungry eyes

I picked up my first copy of your magazine, the spring issue, a couple of weeks ago and I devoured it. I’m just getting into the sport and have no idea what took me so long. I thought I’d let you know how much I enjoyed the layout of your magazine: articles, pictures, content. Every- thing was done top notch. Just picking it up or seeing the cover makes me dream about the summer and going kayaking.

File under “reasons to clean your basement”

As I am preparing to move with my family from Calgary to Edinburgh, Scotland, for at least a year, I have been going through and recycling years of items, miscellaneous papers and magazines stored in the depths and hidden corners of my basement. I came across a Spring 2003 copy of Adventure Kayak and re-read an article about kayaking on the Grand River near Paris, Ontario (“A Grand Adventure from Cambridge to Par- is”). As it happens, we are going nearby to London, Ontario, for a week to visit family before we move overseas and my folks agreed to watch our two young kids so my wife and I can take a couple of days on a guided kayak trip and a night in a B&B. With the prospect looming ahead of few nights to ourselves (read “no chance for the foreseeable future”) this will be a real treat for us and a highlight of our summer while still in Canada. So, like a seed that has been dormant for four years, this par- ticular article and magazine edition has recently inspired us back into a kayak after an extended absence: a testimonial to the timeless power of words and the legacy we all can leave behind through writing.
