IN RECENT YEARS the doors to Team USA were opened to pro bowlers from the PBA, but the dream of competing on Team USA continues to be well within reach of any talented bowler. The roster for


the 2011 team began to take shape in early November when the national selection committee chose seven women and six men for the initial roster. Gearing up for the 2011

have proven themselves not only on the lanes but off the lanes as being worthy of being selected for Team USA,” said Rod Ross, Team USA head coach. “Next year is a big year for Team USA with the Pan American Games and World Women’s Championships, and these selections build a foundation as we work toward those events.”

CANADA, DOMINICAN REPUBLIC TAKE WORLD CUP TITLES The Americans were nar- rowly shut out of finals competition at this year’s QubicaAMF World Cup held in Toulon, France, in late October. Team USA’s Carolyn


Dorin-Ballard finished fourth on the women’s side, missing the stepladder finals by just 60 pins. Her team- mate, John Szczerbinski, took fifth on the men’s side. Instead, Canadian


Michael Schmidt won his sec- ond career World Cup title, while Aumi Guerra gave the Dominican Republic its first title in the event Oct. 23. Schmidt, who won the


World Cup in 2005 and fin- ished second last year, defeat- ed England’s Matt Miller, 2-1, in the best-of-three games championship match. Guerra took down


top seed Gye Min-Young of Korea, 2-1, to win the women’s title at Bowling de Provence. In the championship


match, Schmidt lost the opener 246-205 but rebound- ed to take the next two games, 212-207 and 224-188. The World Cup is the


largest international bowling tournament in the world in terms of the number of coun- tries competing. This year, 93 countries competed with 92 players in the men’s field and 76 in the women’s division.
