the international patterns at
the PABCON

hen Team USA’s Liz Johnson, Kelly Kulick, Shannon O’Keefe, Shannon Pluhowsky, Tennelle Milligan and Stefanie Nation hit Las Vegas in late September to compete at the World Tenpin Bowling Association’s PABCON (Pan-American Bowling Confederation) Championships, they were ready.
Part of that was because four of the competitors — Johnson, Kulick, O’Keefe and
Pluhowsky — had competed at the PABCON Championships previously. But a bigger reason was the practice and training the team received at the International Training and Research Center (ITRC) at the International Bowling Campus in Arlington, Texas, in preparation for the event. “We have had a lot of success in this event in the past but by no means has it been
easy,” said Team USA head coach Rod Ross. “We work hard for every medal, and the team we assembled did just that.” For the competition, which was hosted at Sunset Station Hotel and Casino’s Strike
Zone Bowling Center, medals were awarded for singles, doubles, trios, team, all-events and Masters match play, which consists of the top 16 women from the all-events stand- ings. Last year in San Juan, Puerto Rico, the Team USA women won gold in trios, team, all-events and Masters, and in 2008 in Santiago, Chile, they won all six gold medals. Clearly the big competition, the one that every one of the 60 bowlers from 13 differ- ent countries wanted to win, was the coveted team championship. Team USA had won
