Hot Rod Racing Stars Drop By Bowling Campus
NATIONAL HOT ROD Association star Jeg Coughlin Jr. spends more than 100 fast- paced days a year in his
JEGS.com Chevrolet Cobalt traveling at more than 200 mph. When he’s not nervously eyeing the start-
ing lights and preparing for his next 6.6-sec- ond sprint down the quarter-mile drag strip, the five-time world champion often can be found safely behind the foul line star- ing down the pins at the opposite end of a 60-foot bowling lane. A USBC member and long-time league
bowler, Coughlin jumped at the opportunity to visit the International Bowling Campus when he was in Dallas for the O’Reilly Auto Parts Super Start Batteries NHRA Fall Nationals at the Texas Motorplex. Coughlin was joined at the IBC by fellow Pro Stock
driver, Allen Johnson, an eight-time NHRA champion and former youth bowler. “Being here and being at the Open were
real eye-openers for me,” said Coughlin, who averaged 183 for 63 games last year at Delaware Lanes in Delaware, Ohio. I’ve bowled locally at home, but the atmosphere and the conditions are a lot different. I know I have a lot to learn, but I’m looking forward to it.” The trip included a guided tour of the
International Bowling Museum and Hall of Fame, a look behind the scenes of the research side of the International Training and Research Center and some time on the lanes with USBC Silver coach Bryan O’Keefe and Team USA member Mike Fagan on the training side of the ITRC.
Forum at ITRC Coaches from 25 NCAA bowling programs vis- ited the International Training and Research Center in September to learn from Team USA coaches how to improve player performance. The inaugural National Tenpin Coaches Association NCAA Coaches Forum brought together 33 head coaches and assistant coaches from across the country. Training included equipment analysis and management, lane main- tenance pattern analysis and competition man- agement. The coaches received tips on helping improve their players’ physical games as well a bowling-specific training and exercise routines.
Dexter on
Board for USBC High School All-
American Team Dexter Bowling and USBC agreed on a part- nership that will keep Dexter as the exclusive title sponsor of the USBC High School All-American Team. The three-year agreement also includes Dexter’s sponsorship of the USBC Coach/ Player Luncheon at the Intercollegiate Team Championships. Dexter has been the official sponsor of the USBC High School All-American Team since 2005-06. Dexter has been a big supporter of high school and youth bowling, and it is great that we can continue our relationship with them in the coming years,” USBC Executive Director Stu Upson said.
