Berghaus
spring/summer 2011 range overview
‘More thought. Less weight.’ Those four words provide a perfect, succinct
summary of the spring/summer 2011 range from Berghaus. Challenged with the task of creating lightweight outdoor clothing, footwear and equipment that
was true to the brand’s performance values, the product development team has delivered a collection that emphatically meets the brief. Throughout Extrem, Mountain, the new Trail Sports category, Trail, Travel and Everyday Outdoors, there are eyecatching styles where weight has been reduced, but only in ways that lead to products that enhance the end user’s outdoor experiences.
MtnHaus™
Spring/summer 2011 marks the debut of MtnHaus Design & Development, Berghaus’ own ‘innovation factory’. The MtnHaus product development cycle is not bound by any one season or category, but involves a bespoke team at Berghaus that is totally dedicated to designing and developing very special products. Working in tandem with sponsored athletes, the MtnHaus team is not constrained by a seasonal timetable or target number of lines, and so is able to focus on really pushing the boundaries of what is possible in performance
outdoor product development. Multiple prototypes have been

made and then tested by the likes of Leo Houlding, Mountain Tracks and Team Orion, until Berghaus is finally satisfied that, for spring/summer 2011, five products

have earned the MtnHaus stamp, sitting in two product ranges.
The Mount Asgard Smock in Extrem was developed with Leo Houlding over an exhaustive 18 month period and has been tested by Leo, to its limit and his own. The Octans 40 in Trail Sports is a dedicated
adventure racing pack, inspired by world champions Team Orion, which they agree delivers no compromise and no shortcuts. Also emerging from

MtnHaus, the legendary Yeti Gaiter has been re-
born for the 21st Century. The original Yeti is a product that, during more than 30 years, has helped establish Berghaus’ reputation for innovation. The new Extrem Yeti Pro is the end product of a long labour of love that has produced outstanding results. Other MtnHaus products for the season are the Baffin Island Jacket and the Mount Asgard Jacket.
Extrem
During 2009, Leo Houlding’s Asgard Project presented Berghaus with the perfect opportunity to accelerate the development of a new collection of lightweight, highly technical Extrem products.
Leo became part of the product team and worked with Berghaus designers and garment technologists to create what is now the spring/summer 2011 Extrem range. The prototypes were tested to their limits on Mount Asgard and then refined and improved in the following months, with continued input from Leo and the rest of his team, including Berghaus sponsored climber Carlos Suarez. The resulting five piece Extrem Asgard Collection is lightweight,
genuinely cutting edge, focused and beautifully efficient.
