20 QUESTIONS WITH... Justin Ruiz World.


Justin Ruiz is one of the top Greco-Roman wrestlers in the Ruiz won a World bronze medal in 2005 and recently placed


fifth at the 2010 World Championships in Moscow, Russia. He returned to the mat after not competing in the 2008-09 season. Ruiz has made five U.S. World Teams in Greco-Roman wrestling at 96 kg/211.5 lbs. A former resident-athlete at the U.S. Olympic Training Center in Colorado Springs, Ruiz now trains under Coach Ivan Ivanov at the Suples Training Center in Boise, Idaho. The Utah native and past two-time All-American for the Nebraska Cornhuskers took time out of his busy schedule to answer 20 questions for USA Wrestler. 1. Favorite Movie? Dumb and Dumber 2. 4. How many calories do you consume a day? Enough calories so that my wife lost 6 pounds while I was gone for two weeks and my roommate for the trip gained 6 pounds during the same time. I eat a lot. 5. Favorite sport other than wrestling? UFC


6. Favorite athlete to watch in another sport? Anderson Silva


7. Favorite wrestler and why? Brad Vering, Rulon Gardner, and Joe Warren. I wrestled with these guys, and I loved the intensity that they brought to the room.


8. Best piece of advice you've received? Enjoy the time that you have right now because it goes by


fast.


9. What kind of advice would you give a younger wrestler who is just taking up the sport? Find great coaches and great partners and you will be suc- cessful.


10. Best moment as a wrestler so far? Being able to make another World Team with my wife and daughter watching. 11. Name three people you would love to invite to dinner? Jesus, Einstein, and George Washington 12. What is one thing you are afraid of? Heights


13. What drew you to the style of Greco-Roman wrestling?


My club coach forced me to wrestle both Greco and freestyle even though I didn't want to, but after learning how to lift and throw, I loved it.


14. What do you like best about training in Boise, Idaho? Ivan Ivanov. He is great at changing things up to keep training fresh and exciting. Also the opportunity to have a flexible job and wrestle at the same time.

smallest. 16. Any idea of what you will do after your competitive career is over? Take over the Internet.


17. How did you end up becoming a wrestler? My older brother and friends were wrestling, and I wanted to do it too, so I went out for the team and loved it. 18. What do you do during a typical flight overseas? I do one of three things: sleep, watch movies, or read. 19. Coolest place you've traveled to and why? There is this place in Boulder City, Nevada, called Pirate's Cove. It is a 20-bed, 25-bath mansion that has three pools, two waterslides, and a 50-foot crow’s nest you can jump out of. It is so much fun!


20. Funniest guy on the team and why? I would have to say Dremiel Byers is the funniest guy on the U.S. team. He always has something interesting to say or do.
