Nike new England Rugby kit N

ike has launched next season’s England Rugby home and change kits ready for the Investec Internationals. The classic all-white bodies home shirt is now subtly trimmed with grey thorns on the side panels and shoulders, while the change kit is high lustre anthracite trimmed with an intertwined thorn design on the waist panels and shoulders. Technically, Nike says, the kits have been developed to give players a competitive edge on the field. Both shirts boast Nike’s tight fitting technology and ergonomically designed jerseys and underarm sleeve panels are meant to give players complete freedom of movement, comfort and optimised fit. Nike’s Dri Fit fabric has been especially engineered to be stronger and more flexible and two fabrics have been used for the shorts, a woven ripstop and a chamois. Socks in a Lycra/nylon mix incorporate Coolmax technology for comfort. Recommended retail prices are £90 for Authentic playing shirt, and £50 for replica jersey. www.nikestore.com/rugby

Former SGB Editor takes on marathon challenge

F

ormer SGB editor Jon Bruford is running the 2011 London Marathon in aid of local charity Severn Hospice. Jon, 36, a keen but not particularly good runner, is enthusiastic about the challenge. "I've wanted to run a marathon for some time now, but niggles and work always got in the way. This time though, because I'm running for such a fantastic charity, I'll get to the end by hook or crook."

imex has launched the Ironman Global Trainer Bodylink System, a GPS-enabled competitive training tool for athletes. The all-in-one wrist device boasts real-time speed, pace and distance data and has SiRFstar GPS and AANT+ wireless technologies. With performance and multisport modes for training and events, it syncs with the athlete’s computer to download detailed workout and route information to online software powered by TrainingPeaks.

Jon has been training in UK Gear's new PT1000 running shoes, and is impressed. He said: "They're a lot lighter than I imagined they would be, and they're very responsive; I walked about nine miles in them before my first run, as UK Gear always say their shoes need a few miles to bed in. From the first run though, I have been very, very impressed with the shoe. Who knows, the PT1000s might even take me all the way to the finish line!"
