In January 2010, Nick Shoenfelt accompanied ecology and marine biology professor Joshua Idjadi to a reef off the coast of Tahiti where they harvested coral samples. Back in the lab, the two studied the biological processes that allow weaker species to coexist among the stronger ones. “Professors at Eastern welcome student assistance in their research,” says Nick. “Dr. Idjadi has encouraged me to challenge my assumptions and develop my own hypotheses.
