Predicted vs. Measured Ferrite Ratios
The predicted ferrite contents using the first-order exponen- tial fit for the sections close to the riser and the middle of the plate agree well with the measured values and are tabulated in Table 2. The match for the end of the plate is poor. The discrepancy is likely due to the fact that while the equation is for specimens austenitized at 900o
C (1650o C (2107o F). F), the austen-
itization temperature of the as-cast plate is likely just below the eutectic temperature of 1153o
