New Degree Options for School of Health Sciences

In September, Excelsior’s School of Health Sciences launched two new degree programs — the Bachelor of Science (BS) in Health Care Management and the BS in Health Care Management to Master of Business Administration (MBA) dual degree. The BS in Health Care Management program is designed to prepare students to meet the increasing business demands of today’s health care arena by developing managerial knowledge and skills. The curriculum includes core courses in business, health care management, and other disciplines supportive of the health care manager role.

The dual degree path allows students to save time and money by earning both a BS in Health Care Management and MBA together. Thus, they can earn a Bachelor of Science in Health Care Management and an MBA with fewer credits than if each was earned separately.

And what better way to move into management then to tap into the Excelsior College MBA program? The recently enhanced graduate program (see preceding page), offers a broad business background to complement the health sciences curriculum, preparing students for a move into management or helping to amplify their existing skills.

“With the U.S. Department of Labor projecting strong growth in the health care industry through 2016, there’s never been a better time to make the move into management,” explains Dr. Deborah Sopczyk, dean of the School of Health Sciences, “and these two new degrees offer the tools to help students succeed.”

Distinguished Faculty Members of the Year

The Distinguished Faculty Members of the Year awards program has been established to annually recognize the outstanding accomplishments of one faculty member in each of Excelsior’s four schools — Business & Technology, Health Sciences, Liberal Arts, and Nursing.

Faculty members are nominated in the following categories: outstanding development of courses and assessments, outstanding service to the College community, outstanding service to students, and/or outstanding course instruction.

Staff, faculty, and students cast more than 500 nominations. Presentation of the awards took place on Excelsior’s Charter Day, April 22, and three of the four winners were able to receive their recognition in person in Albany, NY. President Ebersole noted that the faculty awards marked another major step forward in the evolution of the College, pointing to the extraordinarily heavy competition for the awards and the remarkable qualifications of the four winners.

DISTINGUISHED FACULTY MEMBERS OF THE YEAR AWARD WINNERS FOR 2010

Two of the four awardees are actually Excelsior College graduates — Dr. Aronovitch earned a BS in nursing in 1984, and Harter earned a BS in business in 1992.
