• Bears – Black and brown bears are abundant statewide. Several strictly controlled areas make for great bear viewing, including in Katmai and Lake Clark national parks, Pack Creek on Admiralty Island, Anan Wildlife Refuge near Wrangell and Fish Creek south of Ketchikan.


• Eagles – The bald eagle is America’s national symbol and


nowhere in the U.S. are they more abundant than Alaska. Eagles can be seen statewide but are particularly plentiful near the coast.


• Marine mammals – Seals, sea otters, sea lions, thousands of sea birds, even walrus, can be found in Alaska’s coastal regions.


• Moose – Moose are found in Southcentral and Interior Alaska, including in the neighbourhoods and parks of Anchorage and Fairbanks.


STATE SECRET... Haines is home to the largest concentration of bald eagles anywhere in the world. In November, a late salmon run in the Chilkat River bring thousands of eagles to the river at this time.
