Baptists engaged in various mission activities, helping to package approximately 30,000 meals, prepare
hygiene kits, sew sleeping bags, and sort donated clothes for the needy in Hawai‘i.
A Baptist 400 Ingathering was received throughout the period of the congress. The ingathering, which
goes toward the Baptist 400 Fund, was done to help mark the 400th anniversary of the founding of the Baptist
movement, which was celebrated in 2009, and to provide a fund aimed at future ministry opportunities of the
worldwide Baptist movement. Persons are asked to contribute the equivalent of 40, 400, 4,000 or 40,000 units
of their local currency to the BWA.
An international music fest was held in the midday hour and in the early evening, featuring groups from
South Korea, Trinidad, India, Norway, Latvia, New Zealand, Canada, United States and elsewhere. Activities
appropriate to and specially geared to youth and children were also held, as well as special events planned by
men’s and women’s groups.
Four press conferences were held during the congress featuring the BWA leadership, human rights
advocates and freedom and justice workers, as well as workers and volunteers in disaster relief and
development.
