Service quality is ‘assured’ at Portuguese airports In another milestone for the ASQ Assured programme, fi ve Portuguese airports under the management of Aeroportos de Portugal (ANA) passed certifi cation with the industry service quality benchmark – the fi rst to receive the ASQ Assured certifi cate in Europe. Moreover, ANA is the fi rst airport group worldwide to take all its main airports through this certifi cation. ASQ Assured assesses an airport in terms of the quality of
services and facilities provided to travellers, the excellence of its service quality management processes and the passenger approval ratings from the ASQ Survey programme. An airport completes a comprehensive, self assessment questionnaire covering its services, facilities and management processes. This is reviewed and analysed, together with ASQ Survey data, by ACI and DKMA and then verifi ed through airport assessments. ANA has demonstrated full commitment to service quality improvement,
as seen in many innovations in its services and management processes in recent years. The results from the recent airport assessments in Faro, Lisbon, Madeira, Ponta Delgada and Porto clearly show ANA’s on-going commitment to improving the quality of its services to the travelling public. ICAO Triennial Assembly The ICAO Triennial Assembly will take place in Montréal from September 28 to October 8, 2010. The Assembly is ICAO’s sovereign body; it meets at least every three years and is convened by the Council (ICAO’s governing body). Over 190 Member States, plus international organisations are invited to the Assembly, which will establish ICAO’s worldwide policy for the following three years (in this case, 2011-2014). This Assembly will cover items under the Strategic Objectives of
ICAO (Safety, Security and Sustainability), issues, of course, which are of great interest to ACI and its members. In order to fully represent the
membership on topics that can have a far-reaching impact for aerodrome operations, the ACI delegation will be lead by the director general of ACI World, Angela Gittens, supported by the subject matter experts in the topics covered by the Assembly. International organisations and non-contracting states are not
permitted to vote, however, ACI will submit papers in advance of the Assembly in order to promote specifi c areas of interest or support, or in reference to papers submitted by the ICAO Secretariat, the Contracting States and other international organisations.
ACI Airport Excellence in Safety Program As the voice of the world’s airports, ACI’s mission is to advance the collective interests of our member airports and to promote professional excellence in airport management and operations. The World Governing Board (WGB) meeting has enacted an ACI Airport Performance Excellence in Safety Program, which is comprised of a series of actions to reduce the rate and severity of airport related incidents and accidents in all parts of the world. The programme consists of the following actions:
• Plan-Do-Check-Review: ACI will work with individual members to identify and address targets for safety improvement and also provide guidance material, training, self-assessment toolkits and develop an ACI certifi cation programme.
• Airport Exchange Program: ACI will establish an airport exchange programme to provide peer support and mentoring, with Go-Teams to assist airports (on request).
• Secondment of Staff: ACI will second staff to selected ICAO Regional Offi ces to help them implement the aerodrome portions of action plans to address priority defi ciency areas.
• Special Projects: ACI will champion a special project to focus on decreasing runway excursions.
More details about the programme will be provided in the coming months.
