NEWS Dublin awaits
Dublin Airport’s eagerly awaited new Terminal 2 is set to open in November. Operator, DAA, is confi dent that the 75,000sqm terminal, which is capable of handling 15mppa, will dramatically improve the ‘passenger experience’ at the gateway. A new departures building, Pier E, is to be constructed perpendicular to the new €395 million
complex, providing boarding gates and parking for up to 19 aircraft. The overall T2 project also includes improved internal campus roads network at Dublin Airport,
a major utilities upgrade, a new multi-storey car park and the provision of sites for a future ground transportation centre and a planned metro station.
New Cuzco gateway
Construction of a new international airport in Peru’s Cuzco region will require investment of at least $350 million, according to private investment promotion agency ProInversion. The fi gure does not include the value of the

in Urubamba province, some 28km from Cuzco city centre and will replace Cuzco’s existing Alejandro Velasco Astete International Airport. In April, the congressional transport and
communications committee approved a location for the gateway. A tender process for the airport concession is planned by year-end.

Investing in Gatwick
Gatwick’s new inter-terminal shuttle opened on July 1 to signal the fi rst major milestone in a long line of investments planned for the London gateway. The new state-of-the-art inter-terminal shuttle will provide Gatwick passengers with a fast and comfortable journey between the North and South Terminals. Former NASA astronaut and member of Gatwick’s Board, James van Hoften, says: “The original inter-terminal shuttle made the equivalent of fi ve return trips to the moon during its 20-year lifetime – something I’ve done a couple of times during mine! The new facilities are excellent but its one small step in our plan to make Gatwick a great airport that passengers love to use.” New owner, Global Infrastructure Partners, has unveiled a €1.2 billion investment programme for the airport.
Entreprise de Travaux Publics de l’Ouest and the Nantes-Saint Nazaire Chamber of Commerce and Industry – has also been awarded the concession for Saint-Nazaire Montoir Airport and will assume responsibility for operating both existing gateways on January 1 next year. Vinci claims that the simple and effective design
of the planned new airport, not expected to open until 2016/17 at the earliest, will make it the fi rst in the world to have a “positive energy balance.”
