es ahead, we will do well to keep that perspective in mind as we’re forced to address what most likely will be diffi- cult choices among multiple evils. MOAA’s core values revolve
around doing what it takes to sustain America’s strength as the leader of the free world, and that means working to sustain both our national economic strength and our military strength. Sustaining our economic strength
might yet require accepting some things we wouldn’t have accepted if our country weren’t facing truly ex- traordinary economic challenges in the coming years. But sustaining our country’s
military strength remains utterly dependent upon sustaining strong incentives for top-quality people to continue full military careers under arduous conditions most Americans aren’t willing to endure for four years, let alone two or three decades. MOAA is determined to ensure
budget-balancing fervor in the com- ing years doesn’t force our country to relearn the terrible lesson of the 1970s and 1990s: that broad cuts in crucial career-service incentives for short-term budget gains carries its own inevitable and unacceptable price in retention and readiness.
