recent addition (North Mexico), were represented at the 2010 American Foundry Society Chapter Officer’s Conference (COC), held Aug. 12-13, at the Hilton Garden Inn, Des Plaines, Ill. The theme of the event, “New Decade, New Thinking,” reflected the idea that new times warrant new strategies for the chapters. Topics discussed at the event in-

cluded communicating with members, planning and promoting chapter meetings, and what the chapter of

the future may look like. The member communication portion included an online video demonstration with Katie Doherty of the AFS technical depart- ment, which illustrated how chapters can communicate via video conferenc- ing, as well as how to create social networking groups on Facebook. Dave Krugman, AFS, and Shawn Ingram, AFS Texas Chapter, worked together to create the Texas Chapter’s group in real time. “It was exciting to see the level of involvement and commitment from

standing service to not only AFS, but the entire industry,” said Jerry Call, AFS executive vice president. “He has worked tirelessly as an AFS member and on several Division 10 (EHS) committees.” “Dan has devoted a lifetime to the industry,” said Tim Brown, AFS board member and vice president of Benton Foundry, Benton, Pa. “He’s contributed to the industry, AFS and its committees, and is very deserving of one of AFS’s top awards.”

the local volunteers at this event,” said Leo Baran, AFS director of mem- bership services. “Our desire was for each person to return home with at least one new idea; something that will continue to move his or her chapter toward the future. And from the com- ments gathered after the conference, it seems that we succeeded.”
