Holocaust history (KS4/5)

A new Holocaust Educational Trust guide provides an overview of the key events of the period, offering topics for discussion, maps and photographic evidence, and looks at pre-war Jewish life and the rise of anti-Semitism.

Cry peace (KS2/3)

Sadako was two when the Hiroshima bomb was dropped. She developed leukaemia. While in hospital she folded 1,000 paper cranes for peace. CND has produced Sadako’s Cranes for Peace, a resource covering English, philosophy, art & design, citizenship and RE.

Poetry please (KS2)

 Write a poem on the theme of ‘Home’ for the Old Possum’s Children’s Poetry Competition, organised by Children’s Poetry Bookshelf. Roger McGough will chair the judging panel. Deadline is 15 October and there are cash prizes.

Become a school of cooks (KS3)

 TV chef Simon Rimmer has launched School Cooks to encourage pupils to learn about nutrition and food preparation. Over 200 schools have already signed up. Enter the 'eat the chef' competition, for £10,000-worth of cooking equipment for your school.

 To raise awareness of the dangers of fire, the Firefighters Charity and the Communities and Local Government Fire Kills campaign are encouraging primary schools to work with local fire services during National Schools’ Fire Safety Week – 4-8 October 2010.
