Teacher to Teacher

The NUT has just published its annual Teacher to Teacher supplements – one for primary and pre-school, one for secondary and sixth form and one for special schools and services. All are packed with articles written by teachers for teachers on hot topics in the three sectors.

Teacher to Teacher: primary and pre-school points of view covers: assessment for learning in a children’s centre; how early years education in England compares with that in the US; effective assessment in ICT; alternatives to SATs; staging a SATs debate with pupils and parents; and life after SATs in Wales.

Teacher to Teacher: secondary and sixth form points of view covers: the dangers of the academies programme; prejudice against less traditional A level subjects; why the concept of School Improvement Partners hasn’t worked; tackling underachievement of African- Caribbean boys; supply teaching; and Student Voice.

Teacher to Teacher: special schools and services points of view covers: recognising achievements of learners with profound learning difficulties; creating an inclusive school campus; music and art on school bus journeys; false allegations; a different kind of special school; and the unfairness of the new Ofsted regime.

Most members have been sent the relevant supplement with this issue of The Teacher. Students, retired members and those for whom we have no sector information will not have received one. Want to be elected?

Elections for the NUT’s National Disciplinary Panel, National Appeals Committee and all the advisory committees – including new committees covering LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender), disability, and Foundation Stage issues – will take place shortly before Easter 2011.
