which aims to give transport ministers and senior managers of central European and Asian rail transport companies the chance to share ideas. Complementing the Tunnel Construction segment of the show, the Incorporated Association for Underground Transport Systems will lead round-table discussions under the banner International Tunnel Forum. The third edition of the World Rail
Market Study, published by the European rail industry association UNIFE will be launched at InnoTrans 2010. The study is based on a survey of the 50 largest rail markets worldwide, providing an up-to-date picture of the global rail industry and potential market volumes. Copies will be available to exhibitors at InnoTrans 2010 at a special price. Among the British exhibits at the show
will be Unipart Rail’s CabCool – a system that reduces temperatures in the driver’s cab using just a fraction of the energy of conventional air conditioning (Stand 125, Technology Hall 4.2). Balfour Beatty will be demonstrating what it has termed ‘smart solutions for
tomorrow’ (Career Point Pavilion, Hall 8.2, Booth 140). Manfred Leger, CEO of Balfour Beatty Rail, says: ‘InnoTrans is, this year, an important platform for Balfour Beatty Rail – not only to present the developments in the Balfour Beatty’s offering to our customers and partners, but also for networking with the international rail community.’ Another British exhibitor will be
Interfleet Technology, which will appear alongside its newly acquired subsidiary Die Ingenieurwerksta. Visitors will be able to learn about Interfleet’s consultancy services and see its new IWT4 instrumented wheelsets (Stand 102, Hall 3.2). A world premier at InnoTrans will
be Bombardier’s Primove catenary-free system for trams. Currently being piloted in Augsburg, Germany, Primove is a contactless power transfer technology for urban rail vehicles, which uses a hidden power supply making it more reliable in bad weather conditions. The safe, contactless energy transfer system reduces wear and tear, improving the life of parts. Meanwhile, Siemens will be showing off an improved version of its high-speed
Velaro D trainset. The Valaro now has a more aerodynamic housing for the roof-mounted equipment, bogies and inter-car gangways, as well as a redesigned spoiler, nose and roof. It is suitable for AC, DC or multi-system operation. Fellow rolling stock manufacturer
Alstom will be showing a Metro DT5, due to enter service in Hamburg next year, in a joint exhibition with Hochbahn and Bombardier. Alstom is also showing a Coradia regional train, the new Pendolino and a Prima II locomotive.
