merce recently recognized Bremen Castings Inc. (BCI), Bremen, Ind., as one of six finalists for the 2009 Small Business of the Year award. The finalists, which also included Manufacturing Technology Inc., South Bend, Ind., AllAmericanDi-
rect.com, Indianapolis, International Medical Group, Indianapolis, Task Force Tips, Valparaiso, Ind., and Unified Group Services Inc., Ander- son, Ind., were announced during a luncheon at the Indiana Convention Center in Indianapolis on Nov. 10, 2009. Manufacturing Technology won the award, which is open to all Indiana companies with 250 em- ployees or fewer. To apply for the Small Business
of the Year award, BCI answered essay questions and indicated how it is committed to improving its busi- ness, community and working with its employees. The company also submitted published articles and community service projects involving itself or its employees, as well as let- ters from employees explaining why their company should be considered for the award. BCI was notified in mid-October that it was a finalist. “We are proud of the ongoing efforts
of all the winning companies and the small business community at-large,” said Indiana Chamber of Commerce President Kevin Brinegar. “These com- panies impact all of us. They contribute to many working families’ income, to the prosperity of respective communi-

stalled and begun the operation of a new machine in its in-house machine shop. The 15-ton horizontal broach- ing machine is capable of broaching splines, hexes, and keyways.

tons of aluminum castings in 2008, not 414,002 metric tons, as reported in the December 2009 issue of MOD- ERN CASTING. The country’s cor- rected total casting production was 6,711,798 metric tons, not 5,653,798 metric tons.
