Topaz in deal with ShellAviation


Irish fuel and convenience retailer Topaz is expanding into the aviation fuel sector after agreeing a joint venture deal with Shell Aviation.According toTopaz, themovewill create additional jobs inDublin. Under the terms of the deal, Irish-owned and managedTopaz


will buy 50pc of Shell Aviation Ireland Limited to create a 50:50 joint venture that will sell aviation fuel in Ireland. The newcompanywill continue tomarket aviation fuels to Irish


airlines currently serviced by Shell Aviation. It will also provide fuel supply and refuelling services to Shell’s international customers at Irish airports.The deal remains subject to regulatory approval. “This venture will create additional jobs inDublin and drive an


Irish focus to the business. It is a modest beginning but we are looking forward to developing our presence in this sector,”saidDr Frank Bergin, chief operations officer atTopaz.


Rosie’s Broadway Bagels exports to Spain


Waterford food company Rosie’s Broadway Bagels is now exporting into Spain, with the first shipment of 10,000 bagels being distributed through American food importer Taste of America and supermarket distributor Frico-dan. Based inDungarvan,Waterford, Rosie’s Broadway Bagels was established in 2002 by husband-and-wife entrepreneurs Des and Rosie Sheehan. “The agreement to supply into the Spanishmarket comes


as a result of the excellent networking opportunities provided by Bord Bia.With interest already expressed by otherEuropeanmarketswe are keen to develop our product offering and meet consumer demand across the European marketplace,” said Rosie Sheehan. Rosie’s Broadway Bagels are made with all-natural


ingredients and are available in supermarket freezers across Superquinn,Tesco, SuperValu and Spar stores, as well as other independent outlets.


DecaWave secures Korean investment


Dublin semiconductor company DecaWave has secured investment from Korean global electronics company LG, six months after making a sales agreement with its electronic components company. DecaWave’s flagship product, ScenSor, is a revolutionary


chip for the real-time location system (RTLS) and wireless sensor network (WSN) markets. Using ultra-wideband (UWB) technology,ScenSor is based


on the IEEE802.15.4a standard, to achieve market-leading precision and ultra-low power consumption in both transmitting and receiving. ScenSor can be used in manufacturing, healthcare, lighting,


security, transport and inventory and supply chain management. “We regard LG’s investment as the most significant


endorsement of DecaWave’s and ScenSor’s potential,” says Ciaran Connell,CEOof DecaWave. “LGis aworld leader in innovation, and DecaWave’s engineers have been working closely and sharing our technology with LGInnotek’s leading researchers and technologists since December 2009.”


Applegreen to create 300 jobs


Forecourt provider Applegreen, headquartered in ParkWest in Dublin, is creating 300 new jobs, having landed a contract to operate three motorway service areas in Dublin, Louth and Kildare from the National Roads Authority.The positions will primarily be in the food service area, with additional positions available in retail, cleaning and maintenance. Each service area consists of two individual sites on either side of the motorway at Castlebellingham,Co Louth (M1); Lusk,Co

Dublin (M1); and Enfield, Co Kildare (M4).They will feature petrol stations, Burger King and Costa Coffee restaurants, rest areas, playgrounds, toilets and showers. Applegreen’s director of operations, Joe Barrett, said the three


service stations represent an investment of €70m. The company landedthepublic-privatepartnershipcontract tooperate the stations as part of the SuperStopConsortium,which includesTopOil and PierseContracting.The project is financed byBank of Ireland.
