2 | Accent magazine | Summer 2010 The blessing continues
As MNU says farewell to some, God continues to provide new people with a passion to serve
Transitions are part of life. We are in a time of transition as we bid farewell to some staff and faculty who have been at MNU for a long time, some since our founding in 1966. Their stories recite a living history beginning with those early years of innovative sacrifice and moving through the moments and movements of each era. Their names are legendary — Gilliland, Smith, Hendrickson, Olin, Weathers, Henning, Hayes — and their contributions immeasurable. Like icons, they represent the hundreds who faithfully have invested time, energy, and talents in the students’ lives over the past four decades. God has blessed MNU with dedicated faculty and staff … servants all.
And the blessing continues. It is amazing how God
continues to provide people who love the Lord, love our students, are equipped for their responsibilities, and have a passion to serve. They don’t have name recognition across MidAmerica’s region, but they are providing the same servant leadership that is MNU’s signature commitment. Many Accent readers may not recognize their names — Carlson, Garber, McVicker, Ragan, Quinn, Leavitt, Chow, to name a few — but in time they will. I’m confident these servant leaders will ensure our future is as rich with meaning as our past.
This Accent issue chronicles the amazing story of “iF” and the fulfillment of students’ vision to finance a medical clinic in Guatemala. The project was born in the mind of a small group of students. It was carried on the backs of an entire student body. It took on wings of collaboration with international organizations.
The stories will warm your heart and inspire your
imagination to what can be done with one idea nurtured by a pioneer spirit, a passion to serve, and a commitment to live for a divine purpose. The students initiated the project, but they didn’t initiate the inherent qualities in which it was born. They captured those qualities from faculty and staff who have been laying the foundations of faith and character for years and years to come.
What can be done with one idea nurtured by a pioneer spirit, a passion to serve and a commitment to divine purpose?
