For: 

NQTs with their induction tutors/mentors (all KSs) within approx 1½ hours of venue.

To further develop NQTs’ classroom management for improving behaviour for learning. Also, by providing an early shared CPD experience, to promote effective mentoring and support to sustain improvement throughout the induction year.

Cost:

£40 for pair (including at least one NUT member). £100 for pairs of non-members. Includes VAT, lunch and refreshments. Small groups (from same school) of one induction tutor with up to three NQTs welcome – £20 for second or third NQT.

Managing classroom behaviour

TF/73R: Newcastle – 28 & 29 October 2010. 9.30am to 4pm both days

For:

Full/part-time supply teachers (all KSs) who have not attended this two-day, non-residential seminar previously. Participants should be based within approximately 1½ hours of venue.

Aims:

To promote effective behaviour management strategies to match the special circumstances that supply teachers face.

Cost:

 Free (NUT members), £150 (others). Includes VAT, lunch and refreshments on both days.

Primary and secondary teachers

Internationalising learning: on the global stage

Thanks to a grant from the Department for International Development (DFID), the NUT’s CPD programme is providing 15 ‘Internationalising Learning’ courses throughout England and Wales. Each course is for pairs of teachers (NUT members and/or others) and is FREE, including accommodation, travel and one-day’s supply cover.

Each course will:

• enhance participants’ skills, knowledge and understanding of international and global aspects of teaching and learning

• enrich learning in classrooms and schools and raise awareness of global citizenship and the interdependence of international development, social justice, human rights and community cohesion

• build teaching and leadership capacity in schools to strengthen international dimensions within and across the curriculum.

Putting the jewel in the crown

Head teachers, CPD coordinators, advanced skills teachers, plus all teachers and school leaders wanting to improve CPD (all KSs).

Aims:

Drawing on the latest evidence from research and examples of good practice, this conference will enable participants to enhance professional learning and make optimum use of expertise within and beyond their schools.

£125 (£75 for NUT members and/or subscribers to Imaginative Minds publications).

 

More than a spoonful of sugar

Maximising achievement and wellbeing for young people with medical conditions in mainstream schools

(In partnership with specialists in anaphalaxis, asthma, diabetes, epilepsy and other conditions prevalent in childhood)

OD/66: Friday 12 November 2010 

For:

School leaders, Sencos, teachers who can lead change, and other professionals working directly with schools (all KSs).

Aims:

Participants will increase their knowledge and understanding of:

 

• good practice in overcoming potential obstacles to learning and creating a culture inclusive of health-related differences (e.g. agreeing care plans)

• medical conditions common in mainstream schools 

• sources of advice and support

• strategies for preventing stigmatisation and increasing empathy and awareness among adults and children.

Cost: 

 £30 (£15 second participant from same school).
