‘en fin Tid’ Smalltown Supersound
Disco, as we keep harping on about to anybody who’ll listen, is shaping up to be the sound of the summer in Ibiza, scraping away the nasal afterparty k-crust of old and supplanting it with some original Balearic colour and musicality. Or, in other words, ‘Reset and Begin’, as the epic lounging ambience of the first track on Diskjokke’s second album ‘En Fin Tid’ - which translates as ‘a happy time’ - declares. Full of lethargic bubbling
acid (‘Rosenrød’ and ‘Nattestid’), heat haze synths are never far away in the shimmering distance (‘1987’). It’s a sunny treat that belies their Norwegian origins, the live disco drums also harking back to 80s heroes such as Arthur Russell. Add to this an ability to take the tempo anywhere from a cosmic crawl (‘The Bund’) to full on mirror ball madness (‘Big Flash’) and you have a fine introduction to soundtrack your Ibiza disco beach adventures.
