Fespa 2010 promises to be the biggest yet, mirroring the wide format industry's growth and optimism

for a range of sign, graphics and industrial applications will be represented by a dedicated textile zone under the new Fespa Fabric banner. Concentrating these exhibitors in a dedicated hall will highlight the latest developments in garment printing and embellishment, straddling both digital and screen processes.

illing five halls at Messe Munich, from the 22 to 26 June, Fespa 2010 is zoned into areas focussing on digital, screen and textile. The floor plan reflects the market’s rapid progress towards digital production, with three halls now dedicated to digital technologies, compared with just one digital hall in 2005. Many digital wide format players are making their most substantial presence to date, and most will use the show as a platform for global product launches.

The screen printing area of the show is smaller than in 2005, highlighting the evolution of screen printing as a solution for niche industrial and higher volume printing in the face of migration to digital. Despite this market shift, the event continues to be a magnet for screen printers from around the globe. By presenting screen and digital side by side under one roof, Fespa aims to show how print service providers can blend digital and analogue processes to optimise productivity and profitability.

Visitors to Fespa Fabric can look forward to an educational programme focused on business growth and enhanced profitability. A series of 20 educational sessions will run throughout the five-day show, organised by garment print guru, Scott Fresener. These free masterclasses will look at the processes of garment decoration, trends and future developments, giving business owners an insight into creative opportunities and how these can be harnessed to stimulate growth. Topics include special effects for garment screen printing, which promises eye-opening demonstrations, tips and tricks on screen printing water based and discharge ink, plus sessions on making the move from screen printing to direct-to-garment and the world of digital textile printing.

Details of the full Fresener’s Fabric speaker schedule are listed on the www.fespafabric.com microsite. Fespa 2010 will also play host to an engaging line-up of speakers for its first Planet Friendly Summit, taking place on Thursday 24 June. The event is designed to help printers comply with EU environmental legislation rather than risk being closed down or fined thousands of Euros. Non-compliant printers also risk missing out on lucrative accounts if they don’t comply with customers’ sustainability programmes. The summit will give clear information on recent developments and address environmental practices. The programme will also focus on the ways in which environmental sustainability improvements can boost business performance. Delegates will leave armed with

practical advice on how they can embark on a sustainability programme, or enhance this aspect of their operations.

This free, half-day event will encompass sessions on what major brands demand from printers, planet friendly case studies, profitable planet friendly printing and an insight into EU perspective, which is expected to provide printers with an opportunity to clarify how future legislation will impact their business. Fespa managing director for events, Frazer Chesterman, said: “The conditions are right for the Fespa community to cast off the negativity of the last 18 months, pursuing new techniques, applications and business models. Our industry is colourful, creative, exciting, interactive and challenging. Fespa 2010 will be all that and more.”
