Supersize partnership creates opportunities

Two display businesses have decided to work together to provide quality printing and mounting facilities for supersized display work. Quality Mounting is to pool its expertise with Digital Plus in Leeds, to meet display requirements in the exhibition, marketing, retail, business, museum and arts sectors.

The directors from both companies have worked together for over 20 years, originally as colleagues at Warrens. Director of Digital Plus, Chris Stringwell, said: “This is a sensible, cost effective and progressive step for us. Now we can offer our clients real savings along with supreme service for all their display needs.”

Backed by investment in new technology, Digital Plus is able to provide companies nationwide with high quality, large scale printing. In recent months it has perfected printing on all manner of surfaces from furniture to giant display cubes, which is rapidly opening up new markets.

Speed and versatility win out

Flagship Durst Rho printer, the Rho 1000, was awarded the European Digital Press Association (EDP) award for best UV curable high end production printer at IPEX 2010.

The award states: “This machine is a worthy winner because of its high speeds, versatility and the fact that Durst has considered existing loading and stacking elements, which can be integrated simply into the Rho 1000. It has refined transport and the ability to print continuous boards/panels, saving on set-up times and colour matching for long run jobs.”

Thanks to Durst’s Quadro Array printhead technology, the 1000 has a maximum output of up to 500 boards per hour, each measuring 125 by 80cm, without interruption, around the clock. Furthermore, Durst’s workflow configuration ensures it can be integrated into existing

manufacturing processes, including screen and offset printing. Material flexibility is another benefit, with the ability to print on sheets, heavy boards and roll media. Set-up time is said to be minimal, with no masking

Procedures, tips and tricks for vehicle wrapping form the basis of a new video and application guide from Ritrama. The release is expected to help digital printers who want to enlarge their business with car wrapping and decoration

The application guide, which features exhaustive information about the application of self adhesives, has been supplemented by Ritrama with a video document that describes how to apply sign-making materials and digitally printed vinyls on cars, vans and riveted trucks, as well as windows and big glass surfaces.

Subdivided into different sequential episodes, the video features Fabio Orelli as applicator. The first part is focused on the application of pre-cut RI-Mark vinyls, starting from the preparation of cut materials with practical tips on cleaning, temperatures, media

positioning and solving small but frequent problems. The second video is dedicated to lamination with protective films to protect images from scratches, rain and UV rays. The next episode is focused on wrapping vehicles with a digitally printed RI-Jet 50 Cast Air Flow Repositionable, providing a detailed description of all preparation and application stages. Additional chapters are dedicated to tricks and expedients to apply adhesive materials on riveted surfaces and using the lateral and central tape bands. The last episode describes wet application on glasses for those involved in point-of-purchase and interior decoration.

Ritrama viscom division manager, Ronald Rink, said: “The video and application guide have involved great dedication, but the excitement of the first customers who watched it completely repaid our efforts.”
