For life science imaging Olympus has introduced its CellSens software for life science imaging applications, consisting of three different packages, CellSens Entry, CellSens Standard and CellSens Dimension. With the ability to perform simple image acquisition and documentation, CellSens Entry is ideal for basic image capture. The customisable interface provides complete control over a range of Olympus digital cameras to obtain live images in a number of formats, including AVI movies. The Entry package can perform straight-forward post-capture processing such as light intensity and white balance adjustments. CellSens Standard software enables more advanced image capture, including time-lapse Twain acquisition. With advanced hardware control, processes such as objective and filter changes, focusing and internal shutter control can all be motorised,

enhancing the user’s ability to manage the acquisition. CellSens Dimensions software provides a broad range of advanced features as well as specialised, optional solution modules. www.microscopy.olympus.eu

Enhanced patterned finding

PPT Vision has released Impact 9.1 software suite, the latest edition in the company’s machine vision software platform. Impact 9.1 enhances the previous pattern find tool with its powerful Pinpoint Pattern Find tool, which offers exceptional functionality and ease of use. With the Pinpoint Pattern Find tool, Impact 9.1 solves challenging applications with sub-pixel accuracy, including robotic guidance and high-speed inspection of randomly oriented, scaled, and located parts. Engineers design custom inspections using Impact’s Vision Program Manager (VPM), which features intuitive icons for drag-

Benchtop AOI system Nordson Yestech, a provider of automated inspection technologies for the electronics industry, has launched the BX benchtop Automated Optical Inspection (AOI) system. Compared with earlier products, this features a higher resolution camera for much smaller component inspection, four angled cameras for side views, and faster throughput. Nordson Yestech provides benchtop and in-line AOI, X-Ray and conformal coating systems for PCB inspection, among other electronic inspection tasks. www.yestech-europe.com

Vision kit

Deva Electronic Controls, a UK-based manufacturer of integrated solutions for the

CMM and machine automation industry, has introduced a fully- integrated solution to allow any machine designer to obtain time and motion critical video and still images through a simple programmable interface. The kit offers a single interface that can be used with manual and CNC high-resolution non- contact inspection machines to provide programmable vision and lighting technology along with high precision position measurement and motion control. The kit shortens design time, system development and integration time. The complete hardware system includes a high-resolution, low frame-rate colour USB camera module, the Deva 028. Making use of high-speed USB 2.0 to transfer image data to a PC host system, the Deva 028 is based

on 3-megapixel CMOS sensor with Bayer mosaic for colour reproduction. Features include cropping, panning, skipping and binning modes, which allow control of image resolution to further increase image capture times and frame rates. Gain priority, shutter priority and combined gain/shutter exposure modes automatically adjust for changing light conditions and multiple, independently configurable image capture streams operate simultaneously across one or more cameras. The system also includes

a lighting controller and 64 LED USB light ring (Deva 022) and a four-axis high-speed, closed loop CMM controller offering high precision position measurement and motion control. www.deva.co.uk

and-drop configuration, with no programming language knowledge required. Impact also features Control Program Manager (CPM), a tool that empowers Impact inspection designers to build a custom graphical user interface (GUI). www.pptvision.com

For GPU and multicore processing

Dalsa has enhanced its Sapera vision software, by adding two platforms in addition to its successful Sapera Essential vision development tool kit. The Sapera Nitrous platform speeds up Sapera Essential’s functionality with GPU (Graphical Processing Unit) and multicore processing for faster execution. The Sapera Architect Plus platform is an additional layer that incorporates the speed of Nitrous, plus allows machine vision OEMs to prototype, model and streamline their algorithms without having to develop code.

The current GPU implementation of Nitrous is based on Nvidia’s

Cuda platform, and the multicore optimisation supports x86 based CPUs. Image processing for filters, morphology, point-to-point, colour and other image processing functions are optimised as a result of faster execution speed. Sapera Architect Plus gives system integrators and industrial vision automation specialists a user-friendly, non-programming graphical environment to quickly prototype and test drive application specific imaging tools. An intuitive interface allows users to gain insight into inter-relationships between various parameters by adjusting them in real time. www.dalsa.com

Interface for 3D camera Tordivel and Sick AG have released an interface which means the entire

functionality of

Sick 3D cameras with Gigabit Ethernet interface is available with Scorpion Vision software. This includes Sick’s MultiScan capacity that simultaneously acquires 3D and 2D data. Moreover, it is possible to acquire calibrated and rectified 3D data.

Scorpion Vision is a powerful framework in which 3D data is treated as true 3D point clouds that can be visualised and processed efficiently, giving a high degree of flexibility and creating opportunities for application solutions using the high-quality 3D and MultiScan data from Sick’s cameras.

Sick Ranger and Ruler are high- speed 3D cameras providing fast measurement speed, data quality, and high flexibility. The cameras can be used for various solutions – from small-sized component inspection up to large-scale log scanning. They provide essential object information, such as 3D shape, volume, contrast, gloss, and surface defects. www.sick.com
