TAKE one brilliant idea, add bags of commitment and enthusiasm, sprinkle in adequate finance then stir in business experience and technological know-how. Mix thoroughly. And there you have it: the recipe for a potentially world-leading, home-grown company. It’s all in a day’s work for the High Growth Start-Up Unit within Scottish Enterprise, although it’s probably more accurate to describe it as an on-going project that can stretch over many years. Mike Hambly, with a lifetime of business
involvement behind him – having been involved in several start-ups and been on the board of a number of enterprises at home and abroad – is the man in charge of the unit.
His team aim to see four or five new
companies a month. Many of them will have found out about the High Growth Start-Up Unit on their own, others will have become involved through their work on a university
